Deep in the Heart - Sharon Sala

Title: Deep in the Heart
Author: Sharon Sala
Publisher: Avon
Published: 1996
Pages: 341
Genre: Romance/Suspense

Deep in the Heart is a great romance with a backdrop of suspense that does not disappoint in the ending. I loved the hero in this book - John Thomas Knight. He is a strong and proud Texas sheriff who is tender as well as tough. The love he has for Samantha never died even though he thought she abandoned and tossed away their commitment.

Samantha is in need of protection - someone wants her dead. After failing to convince the police - the only one left to turn to is her childhood friend and first love. But will he answer her call? Or did he really throw her love away when he walked away from her so long ago?

Call of the Highland Moon - Kendra Leigh Castle

Title: Call of the Highland Moon
Author: Kendra Leigh Castle
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Published: 2008
Pages: 373
Genre: Paranormal/Werewolves

I found this book to be a seductive romance with a paranormal backdrop that contains all the thrills and adventures that comes with the knowledge that the devastatingly handsome, naked Scottish man in your bed is a werewolf.

Carly Silver is a great heroine - she's sassy, courageous, smart, and to top it off - owns a romantic bookstore. She knows how to put Gideon in his place - especially when she found out he was lying to her. Gideon is a "tall drink of water" with his hot body, Scottish brogue, and amber eyes. He is next in line to be clan leader of the pack destined to be guardians of the Stone of Destiny. And someone wants him dead.

Showing up on Carly's doorstep wounded and near death has put her life in danger. However, Gideon will protect his mate at all costs - whisking her away to Scotland and the protection of the pack. After being bitten by a rogue werewolf, Carly needs to make the decision of becoming a werewolf herself or giving up the one man she's ever truly loved...

The Lady Flees Her Lord - Michele Ann Young

Title: The Lady Flees Her Lord
Author: Michele Ann Young
Publisher: Sourcebooks
Published: 2008
Pages: 401
Genre: Historical Romance

I loved this quick and easy read. It was filled with sexual tension, steamy passion, intrigue, and suspense. The characters were so believable - not your typical beauty queen heroine. Lucinda was "unfashionably plump" and I identified with her and felt compassion for her. Hugo was the tragic hero and even though he had a gruff manner - you could see the hurt and tenderness inside.

Lucinda, posing as a widow, was on the run from an abusive husband. She settles in a quiet countryside village where she meets Hugo - a man tormented by the deaths of his mother and wife. Both believe that love is beyond them - Lucinda because of her looks - and Hugo because he has sworn not to inflict his love on another innocent person.

Michele Ann Young pens a beautiful story that will have you believing in unconditional love.

Only By Your Touch - Catherine Anderson

Title: Only By Your Touch
Author: Catherine Anderson
Published: 2003
Publisher: Signet
Pages: 443
Genre: Romance/Paranormal

I love love love books about contemporary Native Americans - especially Healers. Their connection with the earth, beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation, and their ways with animals.

Ben is a Shoshone Indian who has a healing touch. But he has denied his heritage and gift most of his life. After moving to Jack Pine, he is learning to embrace who he truly is - even if the town shuns him and has branded him a murderer.

Chloe is a single mother who flees from an abusive relationship to the quiet resort town of Jack Pine. There, she hopes to protect her son - but that proves more difficult when he befriends the town outcast, Ben. He seeks him out to heal his sick puppy.

As their attraction begins to grow - Ben is fearful that Chloe will not be able to accept who he truly is. He has been hurt before - but Chloe just might have the power to heal his wounded soul.

Serial Reader Challenge 2009

Found this little gem when I was reading blogs in my Google Reader. Cindy Reads Romance signed up for this challenge and I just followed the link to CarPoolQueen who is hosting the Serial Readers Challenge in 2009.

Let me see if I can summarize the rules. The basic objective to this challenge is to read as many complete series as you want. However, the series must be started and ended in 2009. If you start the series in 2008 - you need to reread the books in 2009 and finish the series in order to be counted as a series. If you previously started a series and do not wish to re-read, then only the titles read after 01/01/09 will count towards your total books read. You will not however get "credit" for total series read. The series have to contain at least 3 books - so trilogies are okay.

CarPoolQueen explains it in great detail on the post for the challenge.

I am an avid serial reader and can't wait to get started on this in January.

Here is a list of potential series:

  1. The Black Dagger Brotherhood - J.R. Ward
  2. Casa Dracula - Marta Acosta
  3. The Masters of Time - Brenda Joyce
  4. Highlander Series - Karen Marie Moning
  5. Kismet Knight Book 1 - The Vampire Shrink - Lynda Hilburn 3/22/09; Review

Romance Reading Challenge 2009

COMPLETED 4/30/09

I will be joining the Romance Reading Challenge again in 2009. I read so many romances this year that I completed this challenge within the first few months of joining. Thanks to Naida for hosting this challenge!!

A few of the rules are to read 5 romance novels between 1/1/09 to 12/31/09. And romance doesn't have to mean the steamy Harlequin novels either. It can be contemporary romance, historical romance, and paranormal romance to name a few. As long as the story has romantic love between the two main characters. It doesn't even need to have a happy ending - or it can be unrequited love.

Go to Naida's post and read the rules in detail and sign up with Mr. Linky!!

Since I read sooooo many romances a year - I am going to increase my number to 12 (at least one a month).

I will be posting my list below:
  1. Outlander - Diana Gabaldon 1/19/09; Review
  2. Just Try Me - Jill Shalvis 1/21/09; Review
  3. Daring the Moon - Sherrill Quinn 2/2/09; Review
  4. Tallchief - Dinah McCall (Sharon Sala) 2/8/09; Review
  5. Virgin River - Robyn Carr 2/17/09; Review
  6. The Italian's Ruthless Marriage Command - Helen Bianchin 2/25/09; Review
  7. Morning Light - Catherine Anderson 3/3/09; Review
  8. Divorced, Desperate and Dating - Christie Craig 3/6/09; Review

I thought this would be a great challenge to join because I have over 300 books on my TBR pile. MizB is hosting the Read-Your-Own-Book challenge. The rules are extremely easy - choose any number of books you want to read for the year. The only stipulation is that they have to be books you OWN. So start cleaning out that TBR mountain and see what gems you can find. Oh Yeah...they can also be books that you acquire during the year. So if you buy new books during 2009, you can use those too.

I choose to read 40 books (because I have 50 books to read for my Library Challenge).

Since we don't have to create a list right away - it can be created as you go...

It must be the first time that book is published in your own country. Also trade paperbacks and mass market paperbacks do not count if there was a hard bound published before 2009.

For clearer instructions go see Michelle at 1morechapter to read about the challenge.

2. The Italian's Ruthless Marriage Command - Helen Bianchin 2/25/09; Review

When Roshan suddenly appears from the future telling her that she is in danger, she is intrigued yet fearful. After sending him away, the villagers come to her home and accuse her of being a witch. Will Roshan be able to save her? Will Roshan's infatuation with Brenna blind him to an ever-increasing danger - danger to them both? Because someone knows who they both are - someone who wants their power for his own.

100+ Book Challenge 2009

J. Kaye is hosting another fantastic challenge - the 100+ Reading Challenge. I participated in this challenge this year - but I am not going to make it to 100. School just got in the way. I will get close though - LOL.

I am hoping that I'll be able to meet the challenge next year becuase I will have graduated next Spring.

The challenge is easy - read 100 books in the year 2009 (no starting early). The challenge runs from 1/1/09 to 12/31/09. Any books are acceptable.

There is also a Yahoo Group that you can join to talk about your books.

So head on over to J. Kaye's and sign up with Mr. Linky.
